I have a second hand MSI Radeon R9 290,
when playing graphic intensive games my GPU reaches up to 94 degrees Celsius.
when my GPU is in idle state its at a steady 59-60.

Is this normal?

Does it have the reference cooler or the Twin Frozr cooler? What are you room temps? How would you describe the airflow of your case? And finally, what case are you using?

Room temps are about 22,
I have two intake fans on the side panel and one other intake at the front also a exhaust fan at the back.

I have a mid-tower case, here is a link below that shows what case I am using.

Well that explains it then, the reference coolers for the R9 290(X) cards are just horrible, here are some benchmarks: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/radeon_r9_290_revi...

That is the expected heat level for a reference 290 card. Unfortunately, you are probably also experiencing speed throttling at that temperature. How is the noise level?

I don't really care about noise my CPU cooler over runs the GPU noise so I cant really hear it.

Thanks for the expert help as I am new to building pc's!
