So i received a free motherboard from my friend, and the model is ASUS P8H67-M Pro.
So before I ordered my processor, I did a research and yes it fits Intel processors.
So i ordered the latest Intel i5 4690 3.5 Ghz.

But it does not fit !

So I researched again and I realized that the motherboard has 1155 socket socket while my new CPU has 1150 socket size. What should I do ? Could I purchase just the socket and replace it on the motherboard? Or is there same Intel i5 4690 3.5 Ghz but with socket size of 1155?

Thank you guys.
Please help

Solution

According to the manufacturer's own specifications page, the motherboard you got only supports 2nd-gen CPUs.
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H67M_PRO/specifications/

So you would need to either get a Sandy Bridge (2nd-gen) i3/i5/i7 or get a new LGA1150 motherboard and use the Haswell i5 you already have.

Yes I just did a research and yes.
So, is there another CPU the same as mine but with 1155 socket size?

You didn't research very much. From the product page for the motherboard.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H67M_PRO/HelpDesk_CPU/

Supported CPU's. The 4xxx series are not on there, so don't know what you researched.

The i5-4690 is only available for LGA1150 socket.

If your H67 motherboard only supports 2nd-gen Core CPUs as geto said then you have to get an i5-2xxx or i7-2xxx. Since you cannot overclock with a H67 chipset, do not bother paying extra for the "-K" version of whatever CPU you decide to pick assuming you decide to go through with this retro build.

So now i'm in the process of thinking whether i should buy a motherboard that supports 1150 socket sized cpus or downgrade my CPU a little bit to a 3rd gen CPU.

Due to budget issues, I might have to return this i5 4690 and get a new i5 3xxxx.
similar performance as i5 4690 and similar price wise. Which ones would you recommend ?

Thank you so much for the help guys!
I really appreciate your information.
This was a great example of what happens when you try to purchase parts without doing much research before. =(((((

Well, the place where I purchased it just told me that they cannot do any refund or exchange to another processors, so my only choice here is try to sell this intel i5 4690 =((
buying another motherboard could also be my second option, but DAMMm.. i'm currently brokeeee...

Anyways, in case some of you guys might be interested, you can always send me a message.

Thank you so much guys.
