My friend got his computer recently and cannot play mine-craft without being about stuck at 30 fps, So i'm making the assumption that he's stuck on his integrated graphics.

I've never used the catalyst control panel before, I've heard about switchable graphics with AMD but it's not on his desktop when he right clicks, which is where i'd assume he'd go.

So i told him to go look about the control panel more and see if he could see any dedicated GPU settings (He's not a computer guy at all, so he's abit clueless)

What do you do if you wish to run your AMD dedicated GPU on a desktop? Or force it to run with a game?

Move his monitor's video cable from the motherboard video output to the graphic card's video output.

Would it still appear in the device manager if he had the video cable connected to the motherboard?

as in like he'd physically have to connect the HDMI through the inside of the case and connect it to the graphics card?

Would what appear? The monitor will only receive a video signal from the integrated graphics if it is plugged into the integrated graphics port. Likewise for the discrete card. So tell me first, where is the monitor plugged into, card or motherboard? And is he using DVI, HDMI, or the D-Sub?

The R9 would still appear in his device manager if he had it connected not like the way you say?

He's plugged it directly into the back of the computer, a hdmi port. So i'm guessing this is the motherboard output and he should open his case and plug it directly into the card? He's got two HDMI ports, DVI etc on the back? (one HDMI just didn't do anything)

Also isn't it a little awkward? I mean he would have a wire sticking out of the case yes?

The graphic card has its own video ports on it... on the outside of the card: http://www.custompcreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/1...

Next question, does he have the 6 pin PCIe power header on the card (inside the case) fed with a power cable? And what is the make/model of his PSU?

I know it's a corsair VS 450W PSU, It's a prebuilt from PCSpecalist :| (I support home-made)

I haven't physically looked at it much so I don't know

UPDATE: He doesn't have a intel 4600 in his Device manager so Do i basically just tell him to install the drivers for that?

When you find out where he has his monitor plugged into, let me know. Until then, there's not much sense going any further.
