I have never played any Civ games before so wondering if I should learn to play Civ 5 without DLCs turned on to get used to the gameplay and then turn on the dlcs later (I have all the dlcs). From what I heard DLCs change this game completely. I have played Total War series before and they seem to be quite similar to this game. Maybe it's not that hard to learn and I should play with DLCs because I don't want to miss out too much ?

I've been playing this game all the way back since it first came out. Trust me when I say the DLCs definitely make a significant impact to the gameplay and content, especially Brave New World. If you go through learning from the vanilla copy then onto Gods and Kings and then onto Brave New World, then essentially you are going to be changing your strategies up all the time due to newer gameplay additions like faith and tourism. I say go straight into the full game, I found it that going through each of the DLCs individually just had me questioning my own strategies. At least if you go begin with all DLCs you won't have that problem. It's all a matter of opinion though, I know some people love to play without the newer DLCs.

Gods and Kings, and Brave New World are the two expansions that really change the game; the latter more so than the former. The rest of the DLC adds content, but doesn't alter mechanics.

I recently got Brave New World, and it has really changed the game. With Gods & Kings, I loved to war. I always warred it out and won domination victories. With Brave New World, I almost always go peaceful. They've made the peaceful game more interesting and made the other civ's less aggressive.

If you love to war, then you may want to try out Gods & Kings first, but if you like the peaceful route, then go all out Brave New World. Not that you can't do either with either expansion.

Of course my views on the game come with massive skill level differences. I had only played to Emperor level with Gods & Kings, where as I play most Immortal on Brave New World, and even beat Deity, though I find it more tedious to play Deity and less fun.
