You need to access your wireless router via web browser. Go to start menu and run cmd prompt. Type ipconfig and check the default gateway. Type that address in your web browser to access the router.

You add it via the router. Connect to your router's IP address in a web browser. I recommend that you connect directly via an Ethernet cable directly from the router to your computer. Your router may disconnect your wireless connection during the update so if you connect via wireless, you would get a brief moment of interruption (hopefully). If you have a bad router, you may have issues with that.

Here is the step by step:

1. Connect to your router via Wi-Fi or via Ethernet (LAN)
2. Open your browser and type the IP Address of the router (usually 192.168.1.1)
3. Once you entered 192.168.1.1 find the security settings and setup now your password.

What are you trying to protect 'from'?

A password on a Wifi connection does NOT protect your PC. It is to LIMIT access to the WIFI to only those WITH a password. Just like a ID given to allow ONLY the workers of a office to enter, the Wifi Password does the same thing, limiting access by EVERYONE else.

What are you trying to accomplish, what is the end goal your trying to ensure? What 'threat' is it your trying to avoid?
