Has anyone tried to replace the oem m51bc fx 8300 processor with say a fx 8350? Is it even possible on this oem motherboard?

Great cuz it would b awesome if I could get the max 4 this boards wattage and overclock a bit. I'm putting it in a much better ventilated case with liquid cooling. Since its oem bios sux I'm forced to software clock since I'm not up 4 buying another board atm.

You normally can overclock on a motherboard that has a good power phase like at least 6+2. But I'm not 100% what board that you have since I couldn't find it anywhere. But someone at asus would know so just ask them what kind of power phase the board has, you then can determine if or how much you can overclock it.

Ok so I talked to asus and they really couldn't say with any degree of certainty that it will work. They just pretty much regurgitated my point that it's the same socket and of compatible wattage. They said it "should" work. I'm going to order it and give it a try...... Will let you know, thanks.

I've got my fx 8300 overclocked stable at 4ghz for awhile now. I'd like to get the fx 8350 to get up to 4.8 or better. I didn't see your message til after I called asus so I don't know about my power phase. Do you think it's ok since it worked thus far on my oem cpu?

It all depends on the power delivery, I guess as long as asus gave you the go ahead on the 8350 you could try seeing how far you could push it. But my recommendation is don't only monitor the temp on your processor, you also will want to monitor the temps on your vrms with something like truetemp. So just monitor them, just look out if the vrms go past 95c.
