Hey everyone,

So, recently built a new gaming PC, with (unfortunately) windows 8.1.

I have been experiencing painfully slow internet with both wired and wireless connections.

Have updated drivers, changed adapter settings, on my wireless card (ASUS PCE-N53 Wireless-N PCI Express Adapter)

the speed on www.speedtest.net can jump from around 0.60Mbps to a maximum to to about 1.70Mbps

other computers on the network get a consistent speed around 6Mbps.

Any help would be so very very much appreciated, as i am on the brink of a complete meltdown.

Solution
to be more to the point in answering your question...

if you're using the wired connection and you have a slow connection, a couple things can be happening...
1- your NIC drivers are bad
2- your computer firewall is slowing down the traffic
3- your computer is compromised
4- Telstra is throttling the connection because of the bandwidth alotted to your group

those are just what I thought of quickly

I'm with Telstra (Australia) and thier speed is at as good as they can get to you, so our ADSL speeds usually average around 5-10mbps.

the fastest speed on my home network gets around 6-7 mbps.

Modem is new, nothing wrong with the modems signal strength to other devices as they are running fast (fast for my country's standards) it's just my newly built PC does not seem to be running anywhere near as well as other devices on the same network as stated in initial comment
