Nocta d14 running hot with low volts.

I just bought a nocta d14 for my fx8350 thinking it was a slight upgrade to my siedon 120, but it's not working out that way.
I could push my siedon to 1.44 volts before the core temp would reach 56C in prime 95
Now my nocta d14 is reaching 53C on 1.39 volt (set at stock voltage, but varies due to settings)
My question is, is this reasonable for a nh d14, or did I apply the wrong amount of thermal paste?

Solution

Its most likely paste, but could be case airflow, could be seating, could be ambiet temp at time of testing, etc....I'd start at the paste though

I have the same problem with my fx 8320 and a noctua nh-d14.
I've tried so many combinations with different hardware and nothing seems to change the temps i get with the nh-d14.
The conclusion i came up with is that the heatpipes must not be transferring the heat like they should be.

Well, just replaced the paste, temp dropped to about 50c on prime95. My airflow in my case would be considered overkill by a lot haha. Got the antec 900. Added 2 fans to blow right on the heat sink, then it exhaust right out the back.
Plus my basement sits at about 20c. It's pretty chilly lol.
Idk I guess the nhd14 wasn't made to cool 8 cores down, I wish I would have stayed with my siedon 120m

It's not that, but it is wierd... Maybe get a new HSF and try again? Go for a Arctic Freezer or hyper 212

Well thank you everyone, tinkering with the heat sink a little more, I was able wot overclock the chip to 4.6 ghz in the safe temp range. I ended up adjusting the cpu fan settings a little, and reapplied thermal paste. Thank you!
