Is this RAM okay for a HP dc7800 SFF?

Solution
Video memory and motherboard memory are separate and distinct from one another. The amount and type used by one has nothing to do with its counterpart.

32-bit operating systems can only directly use 3.25GB of memory (motherboard). That is why 32-bit OS based systems are recommended to not have more than 4GB of memory. For 4GB+, you need a 64-bit OS to use the additional memory.

All systems allocate some system requirements (managing the systems hardware) to main/motherboard memory, so if you have a smaller base of memory to use, you will have less memory to work with for your OS and applications.

Also, memory works best when installed in matching pairs (thus the recommendation to use 4 modules vice 3).

Good luck!

They should be compatible, but you would be better off with 4 matching memory modules than adding 3 of these to the one you already have. You will really gain nothing using 5GB in single channel mode over 4GB in dual channel mode. In fact, the system will be marginally slower.

Well, I didn't see the point in getting 4GB as the additional 1Gb will be eaten up because I have or plan to have the R7 240 Low Profile which has 2Gb. My brother has 4Gb RAM in 2x2Gb and has the 28nm R7 240 and his RAM reads as 3Gb, so If the extra 1Gb is going to 'pre-allocated' and un-usable, I don't see thepoint in getting it.
