Does the GA-P35-DS3L work with a HD R7 240 card?

My Graphic Card (GeForce 8800 GTS) recently died and I am trying to replace it with newer models. I first bought Radeon HD 6450 but it doesn't work with my system. Then I realized HD6450 is for PCIE 2.1 which may not be compatible with my MB.

I don't play any game, just some photoshop and lightroom work so I don't want to spend much money on the graphic card. Would HD R7 240 cards work on my system? I think it uses PCIE 3.0 but I hear that it's backward compatible. If not, what would be the optimal graphic card that I can get for my motherboard?

Hi underdog08, make sure the hd6450 works, then you can try to update the BIOS to F9 version whatever the rev.1.0 or rev.2.0 version MB you had. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2599#bios

Yes, the AMD pcie2.1 even the pcie3.0 will not work with the MB has only pcie1.1X16 ( your MB has the P35 chipset with the pcie1.1X16 http://ark.intel.com/products/31916/Intel-82P35-Memory-Controller ), if you update the bios as long as that bios is released after 2008/2009, most of the chance your hd6450 will work, if it still don't work with your MB, then you are better to buy the nvidia GPU instead of the AMD, here is more info for the pcie2.1/3.0x16 with the pcie1.1 slot...

Thanks so much for your advice. Any recommendations for Nvidia GPU under $100 for my setting?

GTX 650 1GB like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130828&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= it is better than your old GPU, and the lower GPU is GeForce GT 640 2GB, which is wrong than the 8800GTS. And I can't find the info for other like GeForce GT 740
Or PNY VCGGTX560XPB for $100 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00519HJWW/?tag=pcpapi-20 this one is better but it is old version.
One more new version GPU gtx750 for $110. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IDG3NDY/?tag=pcpapi-20

it's user error.............. and he's better off buy an nvidia gpu??................ why not try and solve the problem?? somebody might learn something.

That will depend on OP, if he /she does not like buy the AMD gpu to try to solve the problem, then nothing you can do, I did recommend to try update the BIOS and after that try to use the hd6450. If I have the MB with pcie1.1X16, I will try because I have few GPUs from the pcie2.0, pcie2.1 and pcie3.0. And I will share the info.

I will update the BIOS tonight and try again. I just read it that PCIE 2.1 GPUs have some issues with my MB and automatically assumed that was the problem. My apologies if I was being ignorant and stupid.
