CPU Delidding - Reattaching the IHS?

Hi there,

I have a quick question about CPU delidding. After delidding a CPU to replace the TIM, is it possible to re-glue the IHS to the CPU? Most people seem to just use the CPU socket to hold the IHS in place afterwards. Is there a certain type of glue/adhesive I should use if I were to attempt to re attach the IHS?

Why would you want to put it back on? Does it need to stand up to warranty scrutiny, or what?

There isn't really a proper reason, I know it probably won't make any difference either way. It's just for the personal peace of mind of having the IHS properly attached. (Rather than just being held in place by the CPU socket)

I would imagine you'd need to find some fairly high-temperature glue. Really don't have a clue.

Thanks anyway. I found a thermal adhesive by Arctic Silver, I'll give it a shot with that.

Just go to a hardware store and get some RTV silicone adhesive. That's what I used on my delidded CPU. The black stuff is very similar to what Intel uses.

You could just use thermal adhesive if you wanted.

Thermal adhesive is permanent though. If you ever want to reapply TIM on the CPU die for whatever reason you'll be out of luck.

Na if you just use a little around the edges to hold in place you can get through it.
