Computer behaving strangely - power supply or motherboard?

Hi guys,

I got home last night, and my computer looked like it was on - this was weird, because I had left it asleep. I had to turn it on and off a few times to really get it to work, but then the monitor wasn't displaying anything. It took a few tries of unplugging it from my computer and plugging it back in to really get it to work.

Then, my keyboard wasn't working - I switched to a different USB port, and it worked. I noticed that the components that used more power, like my Razer Naga 2014 and my CM Storm keyboard, only worked on certain USB ports. My Plantronics Gamecom 780 wasn't even working on any of them (I haven't had a chance to try it on another computer).

Aside from this problem, I set it to sleep last night before I went to bed, and all the lights on my PC stayed on, except for my keyboard and mouse.

Could this be a problem with the motherboard or power supply? There have been thunderstorms lately, but I'm not sure what happened yesterday, since I wasn't home for most of the day.

These are my PC components:

CM Silent Pro 600W
Intel DP67BG MB
Intel i7-2600k Sandy Bridge
EVGA GTX 550Ti

What may have happened is that the system received the latest and greatest MS update. It may have reset to default some of your settings. I never use sleep mode. I suggest you shut the system down at night. Try this, shut the system down, unplug the system from the wall power. Wait about 30 min. and restart. Windows should discover any devices (USB ports, mouse, etc.) and try to install them. Be patient do not start and stop the system, doing that may interrupt updates and the system trying to load updated drivers. Once the system has booted to windows go to the control panel and open device manager in the system tab. Check to see if there are any "?" or "!" marks by any devices. If there are you can right click on them and either...

I would do a CMOS reset. Remove all power connectors to the motherboard, then remove the CMOS battery (far right side about mid-way down the motherboard) for about 5 minutes. Then pop back in the battery, plug everything back in and reboot.

Thanks! I'll try that when I get home tonight.

If there are you can right click on them and either update the driver or un-install the device. If you remove the device restart the system and windows will detect it and try to properly install it. If there are no marks then all the devices are working properly. I have the 780's and there was an updated driver a few months ago. You may have to re-install the driver. Most MB have two or more USB devices that power the ports. So it is possible for some ports to work and others not if a driver has not properly loaded. Check you power saving options as well. Each device has the option to be shut off during sleep and a wake up option. I prefer to set the system and devices to never sleep. This all sounds system/software related not hardware failure. Lastly please note windows will work better if the system is shut down and not let to sleep mode.
