Hello.
My computer is old (~7 years old), and it is really slow. Opening or closing any programs causes strong lag spikes, sometimes I have to wait ~30 seconds for the freeze to stop. The thing is, that a friend of mine has a computer which has worse specifications, but it works ALOT better than my machine. I tried everything - defragmenting, scanning for viruses, cleaning up registry, old files... nothing worked.

My PC specifications:
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: M56S-S3
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Video card: ATI Radeon HD 5450
Video card memory: 1024.0 MB

Thank you in advance.

Win 7 would still run just fine on their system. My old T2310 equipped laptop ran Win 7 just fine with only 2gb.

backup your files and make a clean install of windows and i propose windows 7 becuase xp is not supported by microsoft anymore so you may be infected or this is one of the reasons of lagg!

I agree with a reload, I recomend a reload to clear things up every 3 to 4 years. At 7 I'm amazed it still does anything right. I would not agree with Windows 7 on that setup though. Everything will run like a dog on 2 gigs of ram and that CPU. Just reload XP if you own that and enjoy.
