Greetings.

I am looking forward to buy a new CPU going along with my B75MA-p45 mainboard. Those boys in the tittle caught my attention. I am confused since they have similar price tag, both are good enough for my requirements.

I am buying this mainly for gaming, raw photo editing. I may sometimes render some videos and 3D drawings. Please give me an advice.

Thanks in advance. Best of luck to you all.

The E3 1220v2 is an equivalent of an I5. It is the better choice. As long as your motherboard can support it.

They all say the E3 is as good as an i5. But as I can see, this i3 is not worse than those i5 too.

You can go to this site:

http://ark.intel.com/

Type in "i3-3225" in the lower search window ("type here to search products"), then, when you've found the i3, click "add to compare". Then search for "e3-1220", and in the list that comes up click the "v2", then click "add to compare". Then click "compare", and you will get both CPUs side-by-side for a nice comparison. Clearly four real cores are better than two and two hyperthreaded.

I build a Mini-ITX machine with an I3 4130 for Christmas present. That one is more or less a 3225, though 10-15% faster. It costs 104 EUR. The cheapest I5 here is 170. That xeon 1220v2 is 200. I wish I could had that Xeon for the price of an I3.

I wish I didnt believe in this site lol. Then clearly the i3 is way overpriced here: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Xeon-E3-1220V2-vs-Intel-C.... Thanks, mate. Decided to go for that E3 already.

Just as an extra info:

The E3 1220v2 is just like a Intel® Core™ i5-3450 Processor but it has few advantages. It has 2 more MBs of L3 cache and uses less electricity (also produces less heat) due to tighter binning of the chip. Cheers.
