Overwhelmed with options for my build.

I'm in need of a PC, but I came across articles that contradict and I'm confused.

My needs:

  • I am in need of a PC that is capable of playing World of Warcraft and Diablo 3 on ultra. Those are the only two games I play.

I already have hard drives, CD drives, and a brand new 900w PSU from my cousin.

I use a 1080p monitor, but I MAY upgrade to a 1440p in the near future.

I would like the build to be cost-effective (max budget is 900 dollars, but I wouldn't want to pay tha much if it would not be needed.)

Thank you.

I agree. You could probably get by with either an AMD or Intel build.

For MMOs, which often have onbly 1-2 cores maxed, you will likely get more out if an Intel based build thanks to their better per-core performance.

Something with a high end i3 or midrange i5 and good GPU can easily be done for the $600-$700 range. Can you tell us a little more about what you will be playing/doing with this build? That will help us narrow it down.
Neither WoW or D3 is a very strenuous game hardware wise, so I'd say you can be well under 900 dollars.

Sounds like you just need a case minus Psu and HDD, is that right? How old is your current HDD, and what brand is your Psu? Might be better off upgrading them both honestly.

My PSU some topower company, I've never heard of it, I think its this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817342012. My cousin owns a small business that does a lot of CAD and he ordered a couple too many, so he just gave me one knowing I use to be really into computers back in the day. The HDD is pretty old, probably from around 2008.

No O/C. Just some casual WoW and Diablo with friends, I don't really play much video games anymore. Mostly school work, office, stuff like that.

Ditch the Psu. Even if it's free, you don't use a crap quality Psu in your build. You are going to have the room in your budget to purchase one, so I'd go ahead and do that. Xfx, Seasonic, Antec, Corsair(non-CX(M), GS) would all do really well and won't cost a lot. When a bad quality Psu goes south on you, it can literally destroy your system.
