A friend did it for me, and they actually put the original CD of windows that came with the computer to restore or do a Windows XP Recovery. I unfortunately am not as computer savvy, and can't seem to locate my back up files. I did a search, and someone else suggested it could be in the C drive, and to look in there and see if I could see Windows.old. I did do a search on that, and unable to locate were to even look for a C drive. Here is also what they said:

Did you do a recovery or did you reinstall Windows? You might look in your C drive and see if you have a file called windows.old. If you have that file then Windows cannot see the old files. All is not lost though. There are free programs that will let you find files that are on the hard drive but not in the Windows directory. I bought such a program called Ontrack but it costs $500. There are free programs that do the same thing.

He said there are free programs, but I guess I am a bit leery to download anything these days......Thanks for your input and the sight you sent me to. I will continue to search....the family photo's are what I am really trying to retrieve, and am heart broken that I never backed them up.
