Buy the best processor upfront?

When I build a PC, I have a tendency to go for lower end parts to save money thinking I don't need much processing power. Then I'll get bigger aspirations like gaming or video editing, and that machine can't cut it. I end up replacing the processor and adding a better GPU, and am left with lower end parts that I really don't have much to do with. I can throw them in a case and build another PC, and might use that occasionally. I'm going to start just buying a better processor, and skip the low end. Anyone else in a similar situation?

This depends on what your short and long term plans are.

And that 4 letter word really is the key here: Plan

Also, you shouldn't feel bad if your plan changes. A LOT of people start out building for one purpose, then that purpose changes and they have to change or update their build.

This is the nature of technology.

This is why saying 'futureproof' is almost like swearing to most enthusiasts. :)
