Hi, I purchased a cheap card to replace my onboard graphics until im ready to build my own system. After installing the card (an old GeForce 8400 256mb card in particular) I powered on the computer and successfully made it to my desktop. Immediately I noticed two things, 1 my resolution was no longer set to 1920x1080p, and 2 there was an adobe update that appeared and thought it had to do with the installation of a different source of graphics, i also believe the computer installed some basic drivers for the card before asking for me to restart my pc.

The computer starts to boot up as normal, but after the intial windows loading screen the monitor goes black and i can hear the windows start up chime in the back ground.

What i have currently tried is launching the computer in safe mode with networking (while card is still the the system) and downloading the drives from online but after the compatibility test the installer fails. Thinking i had to delete any old stuff I deleted my Nvidia drivers and now i cannot get passed the compatibility portion of the install at all.

I'd appreciate any help I can get on this matter, Thank you.

Hello. You have to install the graphics card driver. Before the windows flags press f8[/b] and go to device maanger and uninstall whatever is under display adapters. Restart the pc, go to nvidia's website and download the driver.Your graphics card is so old it is likly faulty

Almost forgot about this post, but i solved my problem. Disabling my onboard graphics in safe mode allowed me to boot up without getting a black screen. Thanks again for the reply.
