Hi

I am currently using Realtek had audio from a MSI Z87 mobo connected to a Z5500 5.1 system.
Sound is good but I believe can be better with a dedicated sound card. Any thoughts on a decent card that will work well with this system. I will be using it for 50% gaming and 50% music.

Appreciate your input.

Thanks
Chrisn

I've never had any issues with SB, I've only dealt with ASUS for onboard sound on their motherboards, i.e. Gene VI/VII for the supremeFX which has been great. So if their on-board is great I think their Xonar essence card for 5.1/7.1 would be awesome.

Hi Vagrancyx

I was looking at the Xonar STX series but see that it does not have analogue outputs (3.5mm jacks). My thinking is as follows:
If I use the coax or toslink digital outs on the card it means that the DAC on the Z5500 will do the conversion. My guess is the DAC on the Xonar card is of better quality. for this reason I would like to use the DAC on the sound card hence it should have analogue outs

Is this correct.

Hi, some feedback

I pulled the trigger on the Xonar D2X, I hope I did the right thimg given my concern in the last post...i.e. using the DAC on the card. Other models like the essence/stx etc do not have analogue outs.

Can some one comment.
