looking to build Starcraft heart of swarm , Total war shogun , gaming rig help plz

I have a friend willing to build me a cumputer, I don't know much I just know what I wAnt.

I want to build a rig that can play starcraft 2 heart of swarm on ultra or high and shogun total war on medium. It's important for it to look nice but its really important for the gameplay to be smooth with no hiccups, and slow down issues.

And some older games if that's possible as well.

medieval 2 total war, lotr battle for middle earth 2, and stronghold 2 all made in 2005-2006 if that is possible as well.

My budget is 800-1200 that ill be spending on it next month. I would prefer to not go over 1000. I need everything and I want this to last and buy it once. I need everything excluding a monitor Thank you for any help

I've made a build that would go a bit in the high end of the budget, but still not too close to the max.

    PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qkVRgs

    CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($339.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12P SE2 54.4 CFM CPU Cooler ($39.99 @ NCIX US)
    Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($147.99 @ Newegg)
    Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($83.99 @ Newegg)
    Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($79.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($51.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 280 3GB Double Dissipation Video Card ($229.99 @ NCIX US)
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($55.99 @ NCIX US)
    Total: $1109.91

If you REALLY wants to make it cheaper than this, then take the i7 4770K and the MSI Z87-G45 mobo, will save you $40, but also be a little bit slower.

You have a very strong processor for all those units on the screen at once, a good CPU is pretty nice if you end up with lots of units in StarCraft. I didn't skimp on the GPU either, it's good enough to run Ultra or maybe Ultra/High mix in StarCraft.
Noctua cooler will make your pc run much more silently.

Personally i have a i7 3770K in the house with the Intel stock cooler, and even that is noticeable from a room away, my fried had the 4770K in stock cooler and it was pretty hot running even without overclocking it. So get the Noctua or maybe a CM 212 EVO, you can't really get away with not getting a cooler for either two i7's you can choose between.

8GB RAM is enough for gaming, you didn't mention any editing and even light editing you probably won't be sorry not to have 16GB, even less sorry when thinking about it's either +8GB RAM or the good 120GB SSD from Samsung, which i added for fast OS, don't put games on it, only OS, drivers and other programs.

The case is a well known good case, it's made for silence and comes with plenty of space for components and two fine fans.

The PSU is top quality and 550w is enough for this system.

    Hope this helps! :D

    Im just happy to help!
This pc is a more CPU heavy gaming machine, since it doesn't sound like you're the guy who wants to go play Call of Duty or Crysis 3.
Though even in newest games this will do high settings if not Ultra. CPU's are also something that you're going to use for a longer time than the GPU, every year you can get a GPU with 20-30% more power for the same money as last year, with CPU's they don't make new models as often and they're usally only 10-15% faster than the last gen when they come out.
So this system is made to last you some time.
