I have Windows 8.1 and am using a Nvidia GTX 650ti (1gb) . My PC has 16gb Ram and an AMD FX850. Plenty of Omph (for what i need).

I can run my PC all day and all night, rendering, photoshop, encoding etc. and it doesn't give any problems at all. Can be rendering a video in Premiere pro, whilst having several browser windows open and watching a video, smooth as silk, no issues. I lerave it on for hours and hours doing this.

But when I play games, if i crank up the visual too far , after a while the game will crash (screen goes blank sometimes) and the sound will stutter (constant duh,duh,duh,duh....), nothing to be done but a hard reset. This is where it gets wierd.......

When i try to boot into windows, after post and the blue windows logo, all I get is just get a thin line of multi coloured pixels across the screen. Can't get into safe mode, nothing.

The only way around this is to pull out the card and pop in my Nvidia 430 card. Windows 8 now fires up but with a wierd resolution. I then have to uninstall the Nvidia drivers, re-install them. Get the resolution and Nvidia control panel working how I want it. Then i can swap back the cards . all is good

This only every happens when playing games (4 times so far in the last 3 months). I can turn the graphics down and it appears to be fine, but I would so love to get the best out of it, but am now fearful of playing games as it causes this problem.

A new graphics card is not an option.

All i would like help with is:

A) How can I track down the source of the problem. Is there any software to point me in the right direction, of stress test the components and see if it happens then.

B) Has anyone else has this and solved it .

Thanks

That is part of it, but you would need to check the Clean install box in the advanced menu, just to make sure it deletes all lingering files. See this below.

I assume you are talking about the Nvidia drivers. I have un-installed them (never sure if i am supposed to do them in a certain order or not). Then i go to the Nvidia site and get the latest ones.

is this the correct way of doing it ?
