My 2nd hard drive needs formating but has windows folder in it (not my os, my mates old HDD)

basically my mate gave me a 500gb hhd to put in my pc
i currently have windows 8
i have removed all his files but i cant delete the windows folder
i have no cd drive because its my gaming pc but i just cant format it
keeps failing
i am a trusted owner
i have unlocked it with iobit
when i try to delete it, it says some files might be open continue, i click ok and it fails
i just want it to act like extra storage

Are you booting from your old drive? If it says files are in use it seems like you booting off your friends old drive?

where as the file im trying to delete is in the

When you click your boot drive is the format button cleared out as well? Just check don't click it.

yea its cleared too

im computer literate, but this is bugging me havent encounted this problem before

I amusing you don't have a bootable USB Windows 8 stick handy? Or do you have the ability to create one?

so the only way i can do this is by deleting the partision whilst setting up window8 then exit the installer ?

That is the only other solution I have for this problem. That is not to say someone else wont have a better one.
