I have the xps 630i motherboard and I upgraded from windows vista using the "upgrade" version of windows 7 64 bit.

If I replace the motherboard and upgrade CPU and memory, will I be able to get windows 7 again using the "upgrade disk"?

You must have got a key with the upgrade that you bought right? Well then its fine. Is it OEM or retail? If retail, you should be ok and the product key will most likely work fine. If OEM, you may need to call Microsoft and since you're genuine with the issue they should sort you out.

Either way, don't use the upgrade disk, I recommend downloading the latest iso file of Windows 7 and burning to a DVD or usb flash drive.
Just make sure you have the upgrade product key, that's the only important thing.

So to clarify, try it, it should work, if not give microsoft a quick call and explain everything properly saying the old motherboard had issues so then they should work it out for you.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your response, I do have the non-OEM version, but what do you mean the "latest iso file of windows 7" How would I get that and what is it?

Basically, the windows installation image is found in an .iso format. All you need to do, is download the file and use the following tool to burn to either DVD or flash drive. Flash drive is faster and for both, drive or DVD, you will need to boot from it. .iso is a bootable file format that Windows can be installed as.

Download the apropriate Windows iso here : http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/

iso to USB/DVD tool : http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Hope this helps!
