Haven't had to purchase a router or modem in a long time and I'm looking to upgrade. I had a few questions if anyone is willing to help out and answer some of these with detail or source included.

Quick Notes: Needs to be DOCSIS 3.0 & Budget does not matter

1) What are currently the top brand(s)?

2) Should I get a Modem/Router combo or purchase them as separate devices?

3) What are some interesting features or specs I should be looking at?

4) What would you recommend?

Thank you very much for reading and thank you again in advance for your help!

You should always get your modem and router separate. All-in-ones are kind of terrible.

That being said, I'm with Comcast/Xfinity and they also require a DOCSIS 3.0. I went with the Motorola SB6141 as it seemed to be the top of the top end modems. For the router, I went with the ASUS RT-N56U. No issues thus far, have had service since November of last year, and I get speeds anywhere from 60-100 Mbps, whereas I'm only paying for 50 Mbps.
