I currently have 2GB memory and want to upgrade. Bought 2GB more but the memory does not work (even though it says it is for E-6610D Gateway systems). What memory do I need to buy? Can I just upgrade to 4GB? This machine was manufactured in 2006: Gateway (AK) LAV E-6610D system with Intel desktop board D975XLAG1.

The memory I tried that does not work is ATGE47303O-2GK2 - 2GB DDR2 / 667MHz Memory Upgrade for Gateway E-6610D - (2 x 1024MB). I tried replacing existing memory with this one to test and the system would not come up - it was complaining about issues with hardware.

The original memory is pc2-4200e-444-12-g0 by Netlist.

Thanks

First of all your system only supports a maximum of 4gb of RAM.
with these specs- 667 MHz, DDR2 SD
Yes, the memory should work in your system. As per the memory specification it looks compatible and should work. But it can (10%-20%) lead to compatibility issues when mixed with other brand memory especially if it is a generic brand.
.
Make sure you are using 64bit OS so as to avoid compatibility issues.
