So I was told my pc should be able to run most games at 1080p 60fps...

For whatever reason, I am having framerate stutters and slight slowdowns at 720p. Games like batman arkham origins I get slowdown. Also, the game runs worse when I turn PhysX OFF for whatever reason. Far cry 3 I get occasional slow down, Tomb raider I can't max.

I know it probably seems petty, But I'm wonder why this is happening. Shouldn't I be getting well over 60fps at 720p (my living room tv is a plasma)? I did tweak a few things in the nividia control panel. It's a weird thing because when i'm playing ps4, 30fps doesn't bother me. If I start dipping towards that on my pc, it drives me insane and I have to figure out why.

I have an i5-4570
gtx 760 2gb
8 gigs of ram
windows 8.1

More about : told run games 1080p 60fps

Look at the temperatures and look for any inconsistent core clock rates (Use a program like MSI Afterburner). Also, be sure that your nvidia drivers are up to date.

I agree with Jay. It sounds like your components are throttling. You should be able to play those games on 1080p, maybe not the highest settings, and get good performance. I would download HWMonitor along with CoreTemp and verify that the temperatures are not getting above 60C.

You could use those along with a program such as Furmark (for GPU) and Prime95 (for CPU) for synthetic testing, however MSI Afterburner would be the best for checking all the temps and clock rate while in game in a real life testing scenario.

I use a program called open hardware monitor. Not sure how accurate it is, but the temps have never gone over 55 degrees (maybe once on a super hot day). Generally they are around 37 to 40 when not gaming then over 50 when gaming. Maybe i'm just expecting to much out of pc gaming. Are occasional slow downs and stutter normal? In the nividia menu I have triple buffering and vsync both turned on.

No that is not normal at all. Especially at 720p. What framerates are you getting and do the drops happen at certain times? Are they predictable?

You maybe expecting to much from your computer. I would disable vertical sync and triple buffering and see if that helps with your stuttering issues.

VS and TB can mess with your FPS. Sometimes it is better with them on, and sometimes it is better with them off.

Even on my old GTX 650 I was able to play Tomb Raider at 40-60fps on medium to high settings at 1080p (may have been 900p) I cannot fathom that his 760 cannot maintain 60fps at high.

In arkham origins it happens just flying around the city. But then I get it inside too. Like the fight with deathstroke was really up and down. Far cry 3 I get it when going through thicker groups of bushes or with a lot of explosions. I'll generally get 60 fps or close. But I get that slowdown that is noticeable. Also, I play with a 360 controller. I've noticed with a mouse and keyboard, being able to turn faster makes it's happen more often.

Sorry Jon. Hopefully Jay can help you out. I don't really want to work with him at this point. Good luck!

P.S: If he can't figure it out, send me a private message.

Those slowdown descriptions are likely due to Vertical Sync and Triple Buffering OR too high settings. Attempt to play Tomb Raider at Medium at 1080p without VS and TB and let me know how it goes.

Ok I will try. The reason I enabled both of them is because of screen tearing. It gives me pretty awful head aches. With them on it removed tearing completely. I'll give it a shot though.

Ok so I just tried tomb raider with TB and VS off and it ran perfectly. Tressfx slows it down some but with it off, i'm getting atleast 60 fps. No tearing also.

I take that back. I thought I had it off, it was still on the (turned it off globally, it was still set to the specific game). So if I turn it off I get screen tearing.

While it was off did you take note of the FPS?

Try turning VSync off but keep Triple Buffering on. That is what I did when I used to play Mirror's Edge on my 650.

Triple Buffering only works when Vertical Sync is enabled.

Are you using Adaptive VSync? If not, turn it on. There is absolutely no reason to use the regular, obsolete VSync anymore with an Nvidia card. Regular VSync may cause your FPS to be cut in half to 30. Make sure your game-specific settings are set to Adaptive VSync as well.

Make sure PhysX is set to 'Auto', not CPU.

Also, triple buffering only works on OpenGL games, none of which you are playing.

Have you checked your GPU usage while gaming? A low resolution and framerate problems is an indication of a CPU bottleneck, but first check your GPU usage to get a better idea.

Oh, and why are you playing at 720p, when your monitor is 1080p?

Sorry I never responded back. I appreciate the help. The reason I play in 720p is because my pc is connect to my plasma which only goes that high. It's not any crazy issues, I just assumed that if everyone was telling I could play most games maxed at 1080p then 720p would never have any issues.
