Hello, A friend of mine went to a computer store and asked about CPU's the employee their told him that the AMD FX 8350 will perform better in games, over the i5 4690 and i5 4590, when he told me about this I didn't think it was true and benchmarks seem to indicate this, however I don't think he's convinced can you help me out. (Performance in games, is what i mean by performance) And the i5 4590 is priced only 10$ more than the FX 8350.

Problem is the FX 8350 is a better contender because of the extra threads. Currently, the best value FX CPUs are the FX-6300 and the FX-8320. They offer great overclocking for a low price. Intel just can't match the price-performance ratio of the FX CPUs. Currently, even Intel are having trouble trying to make a major CPU impact like Sandy Bridge. If Broadwell actually creates some boom in the i5 and the i7, then AMD will have to be forced to completely tear the FX line completely. And everyone likes competition.

more weak threads don't give it an advantage over less strong threads. Even though AMD have to keep their prices lower than Intel so they can sell their CPUs, most people still buy Intel. The reason Intel have not made any huge jumps in performance is not because they can't, but because there's been no competition from AMD since Sandy. Therefore, they are concentrating more on reduced power consumption.
