PC suddenly stopped detecting gpu

My pc recently stopped detecting my gpu (gtx 580), it was built over a year ago by a friend and I often move it back and forth between uni and home and have never had any problems before. This time programs like the league of legends client and hearthstone didn't start and when right clicking on the desktop there was a 30s delay before the menu appeared. I can't update the drivers because it says theres no nvidia card detected and the windows experience index has changed showing only the integrated graphics too.

I'm fairly sure this is a hardware issue caused by moving but I have no idea how to check aside from already attempting by opening the case and wiggling some random wires about. If it makes any difference the fans on the gpu are still moving. Another issue that's been ongoing is on startup, usually when its cold, something (presumably a fan) makes a loud whirring noise for a while then stops. This has happened frequently in the past but then not so much for a while (could just be weather), although whenever I move it almost always happens on startup.

Any suggestions on what to do such as what I need to check inside? I know what the individual components inside are but as far as connections etc I have no idea how to see if somethings wrong or if it even is a hardware issue and not a software one (a system restore to a few days back when everything was working didn't solve the issue though).

Thanks

Honestly I don't even know how to remove the gpu theres 2 screws on the side that I can take out but then when I try pulling the gpu out it just seems to wiggle in place not sure if theres something else connecting it or I'm not using enough force but scared I'll break it. The gpu looks fine though from what I can tell.

Ok so I managed to remove the gpu cleaned it with compressed air any plugged it back in and verified that all the cables were properly connected. I have no idea whether its a problem with a motherboard the gpu or a cable connection. Does anyone know how to check?

If it were cable. You would gently wiggle the cable from side to side and see if picture appears on your screen. From the sound of it. It sounds like you mother board is not detecting the card, but I don't want to go there yet.

When you reboot your computer--
Did you get anything on the screen?

Did you hear any beeps, if so, how many and in what sequence.
