Hey!

I wanted to know some solutions about my problem I've been facing after purchasing a new RAM.

So my PC had 2GB Kingston ram 1.8V DDR2 and I wanted to install another ram to make it 4GB. I ran CrucialScan and it recommended me their RAM DDR2-800/PC2-6400 at 800MHz. I unknowingly bought a RAM of DDR2-800/PC-6400 at 400MHz. Now when I install it in my PC, the PC doesn't boot. I tried putting it alone, with my older RAM, tried inter-changing but it doesn't boot. It boots when I have just the original RAM installed. So can anyone tell me what's the problem? Is it with the MHz or my PC? What can I do to solve it?

The new RAM is Transcend 2GB DDR2-800/PC-6400 1.8V (400MHz)

PC Specifications :-

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit
Original RAM: 2 GB Kingston DDR2/PC2-5300 RAM (333 MHz) 1.8V
Hard Disk: 500GB HDD
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
DirectX: DirectX 11
Graphic Card: AMD Radeon HD 5450
Motherboard: ASUSTek M2N-MX SE Plus
BIOS: 0503 (03/26/2008)

Thank you! It would be very pleasing if you could help.

The BIOS may have a RAM setting... speed or voltage; if the memory clock is configured to Auto, try configuring it to manual, to the lower setting so the new faster RAM slows down to the older RAM clock speed.. it should auto adjust but maybe it has not for some reason, or you may already have the setting fixed on manual. Also check the RAM voltage setting and lower it slightly, and update the Chipset drivers.

The new RAM is compatible with your motherboard... something else is the cause. See if resetting the BIOS helps. Remove the battery and wait 5 to 10 minutes befoe replacing it. If that doesn't solve it, update the BIOS and try again.

EDIT: Indeed you can run RAM with different timings, it may not run to it's optimal best, but all depends on what you use the computer for. If used in pairs, the 800Mhz RAM will slowdown to 533MHz but there is no reason why it should not run. Newer motherboards are more critical with such combinations but your's is not recent, so it shouldn't have that type of problem. The BIOS update should help, if it gets to that. The most recent available BIOS is the 0602 from Nov/04/2008, yours is 0503 from March/26/2008, not much difference but hopefully enough to work.

I am gonna try this. Will take a while. Thanks for the reply! :)

EDIT : I have downloaded the .ROM but I don't know how to update it. I tried googling. They told me about EZFlash, AFUWIN, AFUDOS but non of them worked. EZFlash required some USB. Is there any way?

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. The ASUS M2N-MX SE Plus only supports a maximum of 4GB using two 2GB modules. So the problem is that the motherboard cannot recognized a single 4GB module. If you can find it the compatible/matching 2GB module part number is KVR533D2N4/2G. We no longer manufacture this memory but you may be able to find it from online resellers that hold on to older memory like www.memoryten.com . For further assistance, feel free to call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

Download the PDF user's manual and look in page 2-10 for the BIOS Update instructions.

Download the BIOS-Utilities / BIOS Update Tool to update the BIOS from a GUI program.

I am not using a single 4GB Module. I am using 2 2GB modules and they are not working together or even individually. The Kingston RAM works fine but the Transcend RAM doesn't. Thank you for the assistance.
