I built my PC in 2009

Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe
CPU: i7 core 975 Extreme
Main HD: raid 0 2 identical intel SSD
Ram: DDR3 1333
Graphic card: Nvidia Quadro FX1800.

I do photography and now I am doing HD video editing work where I work with Raw video files from blackmagic pocket cinema camera! Huge files.
I work on adobe products and now getting myself familiar with Davinci resolve.

Enough introduction...
I am not a big fan of overclocking due to the heat issue plus system durability and stability.
So I understand my options are:
1) increase the ram to 24 GB of DDR 3 1333 ( I think higher numbers can be used with overclocking??)
2) change the graphic card to one of those high end Nvidia GTX cards

Can I use up to 48 GB of ram safely? Obviously after updating my Bios

When the manual says accept 1333 ram and it also says you can use up to 2000 with overclocking, does that mean I can use a ram with a physical speed of 2000 or I can use 1333 and overclock to 2000?

Thanks
Rab

The motherboard - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6T_Deluxe/specifications/
will let you go to 2000 ram. Try 1866 ram, 2 x 8GB if you can. The more and faster, the better for video editing

If the editor can use hardware acceleration go with a 780Ti - and get a 600W good quality power supply to run it.

If open gl only, get a R9 290x

I think you can use 2000 but they say (oc) which I assume they mean overclocking?
I was thinking to go with the "native 1333 DDR3 ram so I don't have to deal with OC?!
48 GB is my dream lol, now only a few people tried it and it seemed it "worked" but hey 1 wk, 3 months...4 months.. Is not enough, I want to see if this system will be stable for good!
Otherwise I might just go with 24 GB 1333
What do you think?

then just to be safe and not waste my money, I would go with 24 GB of ram DDR3 1333 speed. case closed.
it does not seem that there is a lot of people who have tried 48 GB ram stably on this motherboard or they are not posting here at least

I have just installed 30GB memory on my P6T.

I had 6GB (2*3) and I have added 24GB (8*3).

6GB: DDR3 G.Skill Extreme Series NQ 6Go ( 3*2 ) PC12800 Tri Channel pour Core i7 F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ
24GB: DDR3 16GB [2x8GB] DDR1600 (PC3-12800) - CORSAIR Vengeance Low Profile [CML16GX3M2A1600C9] + CML8GX3M1A1600C9

First boots were unsuccessful, I had to press the reset the button in the motheboard to see the computer posting. At some point of time, I have placed my old 6GB in their place and the computer still did not boot. Then put back all 6 memeory slots back, the reset button did the magic.

I am running the XMP profile; ie; 1600 MHZ with overclocked CPU i7 920 3.6 GHZ.

Bottom line, X58 motherboard do support more than 24GB and I think I could even boost the PC to 48GB which I don't need for the moment.

If you have a P6T motherboard, you can still upgrade your PC to be up to todays standards and wait for another couple of years before you can invest in a new Platform.

I also do recommend getting a good SSD like the EVO 840 or the newer one EVO 850 in order to have performant system.

I hope this helps.
