Hey there,
I recently purchased a brand new Toshiba 3TB Internal HDD. Got home, plugged it in and started up my PC only to see that it is not getting recognized in explorer.

It is, however, being recognized in Device Manager. I tried updating the drivers and software from within Device Manager but it doesn't help (says it's up to date).

Not really sure what to do. I've had a 3TB HD in my PC before so I know it can 'handle' it.

It is the TOSHIBA DT01ACA300 (3TB, 7200rpm).
There is really nothing on any of the Toshiba websites about this product which is a little strange.

It's supposed to be plug-in-and-play but it clearly isn't.

I can't find any drivers or software to install so I'm really quite stumped with what to do.

Thanks in advance,
- Daniel

Solution
You need to create a partition and file system on the disk. The tool you need is "Disk Management", on Win 7 it's in the start menu, right click on "Computer" and chose "Manage". One of the tools under there is Disk Management, from there you can create a partition and format it with a file system, then you can allocate a drive letter. Only then will you be able to see it in explorer.
