Computer crashes while gaming, GPU monitor everything seems normal.

I have a GeForce GTX 660 gpu with an AMD Phenom II X6 1045T processor, 8 gb memory and a 650 psu, yet even with low settings bioshock still crashes. This has been happening for a month now. Interestingly, yesterday it didn't crash, today it did. Heres my GPU monitor log:

Ok I just changed the vertical sync to adaptive, I'm going to check if that makes a differences. Meanwhile, I noticed from my gpu log, that the memory jumps from 324 mhz to 3005 mhz (last two lines), could that also be causing the problem.

Also, I thought about the dust and cleaned the inside of my computer early this week.

You may be onto something with the memory speed. When the GPU is at idle state, it clock the memory down to roughly 600mz (300*2). only when you are running graphic intense applications does the speed jump to 6G. if it only crashes when the memory is running at 6G, you might get a GPU with bad memory modules, and you have to get it back where you bought it. is this a second hand GPU you have sourced from your friends or ebay? if so, it is very likely that it was subjected to abuse in form of extreme overclocking, and that has damaged the GPU permanently, so there is nothing you can do other than taking it back to the seller and get your money back. But if it was brand new, ignore last part, the GPU could have come with defective memory, you have to contact the seller and ask for a replacement. hope this helps.

The GPU is not second hand, but I bought it about two years ago and I never over-clocked it. Is their a way I could be sure its the memory on the GPU causing problems?

I guess you can manually set the memory speed to 600Mz using afterburner. if it is steady at that speed and crash on a higher speed, then it means your memory is bad.
What brand is your 680. vendors like ASUS provides three year warranty on their gpus, so maybe your card is still under warranty.

The GPU is EVGA and has a memory clock of 6000mhz, so if it is crashing at 3000mhz, is it likely that its really 3000*2? I also have a possible silly question, if I change the in-game settings to low instead of high, would that make much of a difference?

No, changing the game setting from high to low will not change 680's behaviour. you will just get more frames.
your memory will still be clocked up 6Ghz. like I said before, you can try to use afterburner to manually clock the memory down to the minimum. if the instability issue goes away, then it means your memory is no longer capable of running at a rated 6Ghz speed, which pretty much renders the card useless.

you will have to contact EVGA for a repair or a replacement.
 


No, you could try though. Have you tried underclocking the GPU a bit? You can always return the card if that still does not work.

it is easy. you should be able to do it yourself. first, google msi afterburner, download and install it. after installation, launch the app. that should be a shortcut on your desktop. in the application windows, there are a couple different sliders. turn the memory clock slider all the way down to the minimum. now you can test the system stability with your favourite games, it could be crisis 3 or bioshock infinite, if your PC is stable, then it means there are some issue with the GPU memory. if it still crashes, try turn the GPU clock down, and repeat the same process as before.
