I'm going to building a computer and would like to set up dual monitors, and I was wondering if I could have one plugged into the motherboard and one into the video card for it to work.

Video card: XFX HD-667X-CDF3
Motherboard: ASUS Z87-PRO (V EDITION)

Are you sure? I've done exactly what OP is asking on a number of computers. While the behaviour you describe is the default one - MB disables onboard graphics where PCIe graphics detects - In my experience there's always been a setting in the BIOS which allows you to overrule that and enable both onboard and the discrete graphics. Windows 7 and later works seamlessly with multiple video cards.

I don't know whether the specific MB OP is asking about has this function in the BIOS, but I've done this just fine on more entry level and OEM Motherboards (which tend to be much more locked down).
