GPU Temp Question

I have a gtx 780 evga
My GPU temp at idle is around 40c. When running tf2 it goes up to about 45c. My fan speed is generally about 2% lower (i.e. if temp is 40c, fan @ 38%). Note: it also still creeps up higher (after playing for about 15 min its now at 46)

Should i consider getting an extra fan or am i just overreacting to the temp?
When i got the computer it was idling around 30c.

also... is it ok to leave the side of my case open with a fan blowing into it?
also... if my temps are OK, what is the high temp i should avoid?

Solution
As an example: A case with 3 fans would have one in the front behind the front fascia; one in back near the I/O panel of the m/b; and one either on the top or on the side. The front and top/side would be set up as intake (pulling in), and the rear would be set up as exhaust (pushing out). To reverse the direction of the fan, just turn it around.

Your temps are fine. That card should be OK up to about 90c. I would NOT leave the side of the case open - it just invites dust in. Set up your case fans for positive pressure - more intake than exhaust. If the side of your case has a fan mount, use that as an intake.

How do i set the fans up like that (the fan is on the top, not the side)? OK on the temps and side panel Thanks
