Unfortunately, my dream $1300 gaming PC didn't work out due to some budget constraints. I can now only spend $700, including OS. I'd like it to play current games on high with a decent framerate and play new games well for the next 5 years or so before an upgrade. AMD or Intel doesn't matter to me, whichever works better.

This does not include a GPU, but you can purchase one at a later date when you have the funds. Meanwhile it does come with an APU that has an R7 on die. So you can play games at decent settings.

And here is an intel build: http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/ The intel build will outperform the fx 8320 if you do not overclock. So this is your best choice.

True, but paying 700$ for an APU makes me cringe. Another hundred bucks and you could have something real powerful.

I'd really rather not go APU. Wouldn't the CPU part of it bottleneck most discrete graphics cards anyways?

This is a good mootherboard for this build too:

Here is an AMD option because you mention you want this to really last for some time, or thats what i assume you mean for the rest of the generation. When DX 12 comes around in like 2015 or something it will be written from scratch to utilize cores, all games will use this API and this will really make the 8 cores have the edge.

still the i5 4440 is very viable, but realize that its NOT the i5 4670, its only around 25% better single core performance over the FX 8320 (at turbo). IF you overclock, which you can easily, it drops to something like 15% better single core performance which isnt a WHOLE lot, its considerable yes.

Just compare that the i5 4670 which has about 50% better single core performance over the FX 8320, which is a huge difference. Also the i5 4440 is not an unlocked CPU like the FX is so you cant really overclock a whole lot

Sure. And it's not a bad build. Non overclockable though. Its a shame: FX-8320 is great for oc...
