Hello,

I have been wanting to upgrade my rig for a while now and since the i7-4790K is coming out soon I figure now is the time to do it. Problem is, I do not know what motherboard to choose when it comes down to it.

I have been looking around and these are the board I think would suit my needs but I am not sure which is best so any help in that area would be great. I should also mention that I would like to do some overclocking and I do not know what board would be best for that.

Here are the boards I think I would want:
MSI Z97-Gaming 9 AC
MSI Z97-GD65 Gaming
ASRock Z97 PROFESSIONAL
Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO
MSI Z97 MPOWER MAX AC

Those are the ones I think would work for me, some are a little out of my price range but I can manage. Also please to tell me if there is another board out there that completely blows these out of the water.

Thank you for your help!

The Z97 Extreme4 is also a great contender if you're looking to get the most bang for your buck. It's what I would buy as more expensive boards aren't significantly better if all you're planning to do is sane overclocking and dual GPU SLI.

Ok, I was leaning towards the MPower Max AC since it has both a 8 and 4 pin connector for power but if that is totally unnecessary and over the top then that changes what I need to look for. The Z97 Extreme 4 looks pretty good and it has a nice price tag. But I have read some reviews and it looks like it can't fit huge GPU's and I have already had trouble with mine in my current mobo so I do not know quite yet. I'm going to keep looking.

Thank you for your help :)

Right now I have a Radeon HD 7950 and its longer than my Mobo and it doesn't leave enough room for a push/pull config for my rad. I suppose it could be my case, which is a Cooler Master HAF XB but I do know that this GPU is large.

You're correct. In this case, the problem is the case. :p

But I understand if you don't feel comfortable buying it. I wouldn't worry about it not fitting the motherboard though.

Yeah, half way through typing that response I was like oh! its probably the case, lol.

I think that is a good board but I am going to keep looking for a bit.

Thanks again for your help!
