i am working on my new hobby i have a optiplex computer i desire to upgrade to at least a quad core mother board and 16 to 32 gig capability

780 supports quad cores cpus....up to Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650/3.00GHz, 12M, 1333FSB
I have one of this and after the update to the latest bios my 780 DT now runs with 16 GB ram !

Dell is famous for having non-standard motherboards and power supplies. I strongly suspect that you would have to upgrade both the power supply and the motherboard - if Dell mountings even fit standard mobos. Basically, you want to recycle the case, memory, and drives, yes?

I still own a Dell Vostro 410 and I have swapped out the motherboard when it died for a Gigabyte G41M Combo S3. I did have to do a bit of metalwork on the back admittedly but the screw holes were fine. As the point about power supplies most Dells nowadays do not use proprietary PSUs on DESKTOPS. They do however for laptops!
