Dual Monitors with only one port on video card?

I just got back an extra monitor I had lent out, and was looking to set up dual monitors for the first time ever. However, my video card only has one DVI port. I thought maybe something would work if I used the DVI port from the computer's onboard card, but I'm not really sure if that's possible anyway.

Any help would be great, thanks.

You would need a new Video card in order to do that. DVI is only compatible with single display solution, don't get confused with DVI splitters, they simply mirror the image !

Another solution is using this thing, but it's easier to grab a new GPU : http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/dh2go/digital_se/

If your card has other ports, you can simply grab a DVI to HDMI adapter, or a HDMI cable if your monitor has one too !

I would buy an adapter that goes from HDMI to DVI. Get a HDMI cable, connect it to your video card, then to the adapter, and then to the monitor. I assume that the monitor just has a DVI port?

I discovered that my main monitor(ASUS VW246) actually has HDMI on it as well as DVI, so I took my HDMI cable off my PS3 and hooked it up that way, and the MacPro monitor to DVI

It detected both, though my ASUS is giving me some issues. It turns on and says "no DVI signal", which makes sense because it isn't connect to DVI anymore. I'm not sure how to get it to use HDMI though.

Edit: Ok, ignore the above problem. I found how to switch to HDMI, and now things seem to be working. My only issue now is that the resolution of my main monitor seems to be stuck at the resolution of the smaller one. Best I could do on my own is setting the main monitor to the max resolution of the smaller one. Is there a way to allow both monitors to display at their max resolutions?
