Hi, I recently started working on an open loop build. I screwed down the cpu waterblock using intel screws (I run on AMD, stupid I know) really tight. Upon realizing that I had used the wrong screws, I removed the block immeadiately. The waterblock plate was scratched (not severe) and the cpu surface was scratched (doesnt look severe). The socket was hard to unlock and made a clicking noise when put to the unlocked position.

DID I BREAK MY MOTHERBOARD/CPU??????

Please help, I have been a nervous wreck ever since I realized.

Thanks.

Very hard to say for certain, though I would guess probably not.

Best bet would be to as quickly as possible put the machine together and try it - forget the water cooling for now, just use the stock cooler and get it up and running, and then you'll know one way or the other

But don't panic

I'm running on a 9370 so no stock cooler. I ditched my closed loop cooler and sold it. Wish I had it right about now. I couldn't see it anyways because my gpu has a waterblock on it also. I removed the cpu, and no pins were bent. The only visible "damage" was the scratches and I've read that those are fairly normal. The lock lever for the socket is what really gets me. But the Cpu is locked in perfectly and the pins arent bent so it all seems well.
