Hey guys,

I'm wanting to build a new gaming computer in a month or so as mine is about 4 years old now. I want to make sure I can play any game on Ultra in 1080p.

My current computer is this:
CPU: Intel Core i7 930
MB: ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0
PSU: XFX Black Edition P1-750B-CAG9 750W ATX12V v2.2 / ESP12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular
GFX: Radeon HD 5870 1gb
MEM: G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

I was looking at building something similar to this: http://newbcomputerbuild.com/newb-computer-build-home/j...

Any ideas or anything I can reuse? Possibly the PSU?

Thank you,
SuicideSamurai

The first thing you should upgrade is the GPU. The processor may actually be fine for now. Just upgrade the GPU for now and see if the build is performing to your standards.

Powersupply you can certainly re-use.

i7-930 can easily be run close to 4Ghz, and with some effort, and maybe a new heatsink, even further. Coupled with a new GPU this can run practically any modern title.

I see it's currently running at 2.80. I have a Cooler master aftermarket already installed on it, but I have never overclocked anything before.

If you overclock the i7-930, there's a good chance that you won't need to replace it.

http://www.overclock.net/t/538439/guide-to-overclocking...

I ran my i7-950 at 3.67 Ghz at something like 1.085 volts 23x161 for years.
