The i7 would be a better laptop overall. The RAM and storage can always be upgraded later, if the laptop permits upgrades.

However to be honest, you could build a better desktop for around the same price you're paying for the laptop. A desktop i5 can provide the same performance as the mobile i7-4700MQ.

I'd get the i7 laptop and just upgrade to 8gb ram later.

But yeah a desktop for the same price can end up being much better
