Hey, I will buy an FX-8350 (4.0Ghz Eight core)

I previously had an i5-2300 (2.8Ghz)

I have a 500W PSU (80+ Bronze)

I will upgrade my RAM to this - http://www.corsair.com/en/vengeance-low-profile-blue-8gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cml8gx3m2a1600c9b

I will replace the MOBO with this - Gigabyte 990XA-UD3

I also have an AMD Radeon HD 7770.

Are these parts compatible with each other?

Does the boxed edition come with a stock cooler?

Do I need to replace the PSU?

Do I need to re-install Windows for this to work?

Even overclocked, the 8350 won't match a stock 3570k in single core performance.

And I'm not agreeing with you that games will take advantage of the 8350's extra cores. Games are still using the small amount of cores as they were 2ish?years ago when the CPU was released. AMD CPUs aren't going anywhere in the future. By the time these games you speak of actually utilize more cores, Intel will have something that will completely dominate the 8350. There's no high end/enthusiast AMD CPU even rumored to be coming out. And higher GHz =/= faster CPU. I'd take a i5-3570k @ 4.5 GHz any day over a 8350 @ 5 GHz, if you can even reach that.

I wouldn't switch from Intel, Intel processors in my experience last a lot longer. I could be wrong though last time I had an AMD chip was 07-08, they may have improved.

The only problem I see is with your psu, it could be a bottle neck, while it will run your components and the ram will fit in your board you have little wiggle room.

I'd go with a 600w PSU

IMO

Hope this helps

I am just curious why you want to switch to AMD when you already have Intel components. You could upgrade to the i5 3570K and get close to the performance and not have to buy a new motherboard. It would be more cost effective to stick with Intel. You could even get an i7 3770K which is a decent bit better than the 8350.

Stick with the Intel chip.

Sure, the AMD sounds cool. With it's 8 cores and 4gh clockspeed. But just because a chip has more cores or a higher clockspeed doesn't mean it's faster. It all depends on the architecture; what's inside each of those cores. And that is where Intel excels.

If you don't believe me, have a look at this article. That's right: your current Intel CPU is actually rated higher than your supposed AMD upgrade ;)

The AMD CPU is 40% faster at stock speeds than the Core i5 2300 in multithreaded tasks. While the Core i5 2300 is 13% faster in single threaded applications. The FX 8350 will perform just a little bit slower in certain games but going forward I think we can all agree that games will be able to take advantage of those extra cores in the FX 8350. The FX processor has a better looking future than the 2300. The FX 8350 is 10% faster overall than the i5 2300 at stock speed and in addition to that the FX 8350 can overclock to nearly 5GHz while the 2300 can't.
