You might have to try to restore it since its new. Is there any information on it that you don't want to lose?

I left it for 3 hours before turning off. 100% complete also seems self explanatory!

As I said the message was displayed for over 3 hours before I turned it off. It also reads 100% complete

Windows 8 has the ability to reset windows in a sense without loosing any info. But if there is no info on the computer you need then I would suggest just doing a factory reset. It should all be in the start up menu
