So I just got done building this PC

I have now plugged it in for the first time and booted it up. I've got my Windows 8.1 boot disc here ready to go, and I was expecting to see the bios menu come up for the mobo. The problem is, I can't get it to display. I am hooking it up via HDMI. I started off using my receiver--like I plan on using once it's set up--but I have also tried skipping that and going straight into the TV. I know the cable is fine because I used it with my previous PC just a few days ago. I have also tried plugging it into both the MOBO and the GPU--as they both have an HDMI slot.
Any help would be great as I have never actually done this part before, and getting no display is quite obviously a wee bit of a problem.
