Hello, I am getting a Samsung Evo 840 SSD 120gb. In my PC I have an hdd already. I wanted to know how do I install that ssd for storage only. No boot up or nothing. I want to storage like games or a couple of programs. Also, what I got in mind so far is to install it like a GPU and transfer my games over. I doubt that though.

Thanks!

you should put your operating system on the SSD and a few select programs/games only. As Swifty stated above, it is usually done the other way. SSD for the operating system (and maybe a few games but don't get anywhere near filling it up) and the HDD for your programs and files.

Yes. OS and applications on the SSD.
A 120GB drive (I have one) can hold the OS and most/all of your applications besides games.

How to do it?
Fresh install on the new SSD. There are various migration tools, but the fail potential is far greater doing that over just a fresh install on the new drive.

Disconnect all other drives.
Install the OS with only the SSD connected.

Ok. But installing the OS requires...a CD? I have an HP 700 074 and it came with windows 8. So what is required to install the OS?

Thanks

Backing up a little bit.....this is an HP with a preinstalled Windows 8 OS?
That makes things a little more difficult.

I believe so because when I first boot it up, it didnt tell me nothing about using a CD. And no it did not come with a CD. Now what should I do?

If you have an activation code somewhere and you should, you can download an ISO file of Win8 and use that to install windows. The activation code should work especially since it is on the same comp.

Is the code in the windows rating screen? You know where the computer has like rating of its performance and then when you scroll down you see a product key..is that it?

It is usually on the machine it's self, the side or bottom and might be with the paper work and disks that came with the comp.
