I have a msi 970 g45 and windows 7 oem and i am thinking about upgrading to an intel motherboard with an intel processor. Is it possible for me to do this with a windows 7 oem without having to buy another windows 7 licence?

Solution
You call the automated number provided during the installation and you'll give the machine a code and it'll give a code back that you'll have to enter to activate. It's very simple and if you do it you'll see for yourself how easy it is.

It's been a while, but did it work? I'm thinking of changing my mobo but I'm aware I may have to rebuy a windows key. How did the calling up microsoft go?

Im thinking of doing the same thing. Im changing my motherboard from AMD (AM3+) to Intel (LGA 1150) but due to my windows being oem, Im not so sure. I do have the disk and key (as I bought it) so would I be able to just call up microsoft and ask for a new product key? Please explain. Thanks in advance.

Wow, that's brilliant. I was always afraid that because I have the windows oem install disk, I wouldnt be able to switch motherboards without rebuying windows. Very good.

Just a quick question - I know there are ways to switch motherboards without reinstalling windows (by removing all drivers). Is there a way I can do this and still call microsoft for an activation code? Or do I need to install windows to get that automated number. Sorry for dragging this on, but would I be able to wipe windows off of my HDD for example yet keep all my files, and re install windows specifically on an SSD for example. I know you're very knowledgeable when it comes to things like this. Thanks in advance.
