Hey Tom's Hardware Community,
I've been considering building my own computer for gaming for quite some time and I think between all the other forum posts on the same topic I should be able to figure out some good parts. However, I'd feel pretty bad if I mess up something simple like shocking the motherboard and not being able to get a working product together. The solution I have in mind for this problem is to put together a simple machine to work on my building skills.
I was thinking I could get some of the pieces together that I want to use for the actual finished product gaming PC (like the case) but buy much less expensive pieces simply for testing like an old CPU and RAM and stuff like that to keep the cost of the trial as small as possible.
I have two questions here. Firstly, is this a good idea? A trial run seems like the best way to get hands on practice and nothing would assure me more that I could do this then to get my trial computer up and running. My second question is really only if this is a good idea. What are the cheapest components that I could find and what pieces should I buy and plan on using for the second time around?
Thanks in advance for the help. I'm new here by the way so if there's a way I could improve my forum questions in the future let me know!
