Minecraft Low FPS

I have recently built this computer and I am getting lower FPS on minecraft than my last computer. My specs are FX-8350 with a R9 280x on my new pc. My old pc was an Intel Pentium 3.00GHz with a GeForce 6600. I was getting a constant 60 fps with my old pc but with my new one it dips below 20 fps very frequently. I have tried many things and cant figure out whats wrong.

Dont set the graphics in minecraft to fast, they look a lot worse and you shouldn't have to do that, since your PC is great...
Do you have any mods installed? When do you experience low fps? Any moment, or specific situations? How much ram do you have? Do you have the 64bit version of java installed?
If i remember correctly, in-game shift+f3 should give you a chart of cpu usage. Try to press that when you're getting low fps, and report back.

With no mods, everything maxed up, i get 70-90 fps average, 45-60 are my absolute minimum fps, and I have an APU (A10-6800k), so you should get more than 100 fps...

i have the fx 6300 and a r9 270x and usually i get 80-90 fps, but on some servers i go down to 20-25. if you're getting bad fps on a server, see your fps on a single player world. it might be the server's plugins or ram that is affecting you, thats what happened on my server
