Is normal for my laptop to run crysis 3 so slowly?

Hey guys, I have downloaded a lot of software that claims to boost performance in games, but to no avail.

Crysis 3 is a demanding game, I am getting 20-25 fps on minimum settings which is unacceptable in my opinion.
My laptop specs are:
CPU)Intel Core i5 3230M @2.60GHZ (2 cores 4 threads)
RAM)DDR3 SO-DIMM 1X8GB @ 1600Mhz
GPU)GT 740M
SCREEN RES) 1366X768
This is a Lenovo Z500 BTW if that matters.

I tried different steps such as running with nvidia processor, high performance mode with power pluged in, nothing seemed to help. Please tell me if it is supposed too be like that or if you have any tips to improve fps, I will be very grateful :)

Thank you for your attention,
Sonny

Hi sonny8888 ,
crysis 3 minimum cpu requirements are fairly high , although you have more than enough ram i believe it is your cpu letting you down at 2.6ghz
a higher GHZ cpu would serve you better and increase FPS.
That being said you might want to try low settings on crysis 3 and see how you go

Sonny is at low.. Maybe you can free up some system resource. The laptop i had was a drp too and i had to have nothing extra at all running to play most games over 30fps.

I only tested ran the game with fraps not recording to check out the fps. I guess im out of luck. It may be time for an upgrade. Tell me if you guys have any more ideas.

Thanks,
Sonny

(scroll down for Crysis 3 benchmarks)
if you click on the individual fps ratings (there are 3 per setting) you see the laptop setup used to obtain that frame rate.
And you will see that the GPU itself is only sufficient for running Crysis 3 at the lowest of settings and at 1024 x 768 resolution.

Though looking at these benchmarks your CPU should be able to play at 30 fps+ (seeing as how the an i3 ULV model cpu was just shy of a 30 fps avg).

Try ending all unnecessary background processes and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, monitor your GPU and CPU temperatures. If a specific piece of hardware reaches its thermal threshold, it is not uncommon for the laptop to throttle down either the CPU or GPU (which ever is getting too hot) so that it may reach more acceptable operating temperatures to avoid overheating and prevent damage to your system.

If it is the temperatures that are causing the issue, getting a laptop cooler should remedy the issue. a really good one that i personally use:

Hope this helps!

Ok i will try playing at 1024x768. That resolution looks funny on my laptop, but i have a spare monitor at 1024X768 from my old desktop (Core2Duo and a 9800GT) so i will try using that. Could you please recommend a program for monitoring temperatures?

Thanks,
Sonny

Yep there's a chance your components may be lowering clock speeds to lower overall temps.
Did you make sure to disable all background processes? (i.e. skype , torrents, and etc.)

Yup, all that is running is Task Manager (For some reason i cannot access open hardware monitor when pressing windows key, so i needed to ctrl alt delete and launch task manager which allowed me to access open hardware monitor) Crysis 3 and Open hardware monitor. All background apps closed except AV and Firewall.
