R9 295X2 Crossfire vs GTX Titan Z SLI for 4k

Solution
R9 295X2 Crossfire (4 R9 290X's) is quite similar to Titan Z is SLI with 4 GTX Titan Blacks, the extra vram won't even help.

You should care about the price, just stick to a max of three cards, so get three R9 290X's, and watercool them if you wish. Reason being as Quad fire and Quad SLI the scaling is very poor. I don;t like it when people spend thousand of dollars on cards like two Titan-Z's when you can get similar performance for far less, over $6500 for only graphics cards alone is a waste and isn't going to put you out in front if you spend $1700 on graphics cards, even at 4k.

I'm planning to build a new pc, I continually keep looking at AMD because price is an issue for me, I have a long way to go in the savings department. A 295x2 crossed with a 290x gives you that 3 gpu sweet spot. I know the 295x2 is pricier than some double 290x con figs but that water cooling is so interesting. Forgive the ignorance but can you run a titan z with another nvidia model like a gtx 980? I'm not sure if the card mismatching is unique to AMD.

The 295x2 is two 290X GPU's on a single pcb.

Titan Z can be SLI'd with a Titan Black or another Titan Z.

be wise and buy 3 posiedon gtx 980s and watercoolit..it will kill almost anything..anything more than 3 gpu's in sli-scaling is really poor, and if you are planning on putting 4 cards in sli(even if its dual gpu cards, 4 of them)- the scaling will be really poor AND you must watercool them only..for air cooling the temps will go so high because there won't be enough space for enough air to go there to cool the cards.. gtx 980 even beats titan black by a small margin..

As an AMD fanboy I have to agree with this guy if you want to go Nvidia. The Titan series is wayyyyyyy overpriced for gaming. You can get better or equal performance for the same price or cheaper from both Nvidia and AMD.

I am not an AMD fanboy, nor am I an nVidia fanboy..i lean more towards nVidia because the performance per watt is better with nVidia..and its not about money

No offense whatsoever,
Just assume, there are 300million people in USA, and if actually 50% of them really care about gaming(150 million), and if every one of those 150 million own a 250W AMD card instead of a 150W nVidia card that performas roughly the same(for e.g., r9 280x vs gtx960-power figures are rough estimates), just because AMD card is 10-20 dollars cheaper for every person, the nation has to generate 100 watts of more power. That amounts to something like 15 billion watts of increased power demand..the nation has to start a whole new bunch of nuclear reactors to fulfil the demands..

Imagine how many people suffer from side effects of nuclear reactors being started around them, and these side effects run in families for generations to generations, these mutations, man they are horrible.. it could be you it could be me, it could be our children, family..

I am sorry to say this.. if we stop for a little while and think, its no longer a money issue, anyone who has passed 12th grade can earn 20-30$ a day, and money comes today and goes away tomorrow..its the national resource that we are about to waste we have to think of..Just because we can afford to pay the bills, it doesnt mean we can waste the resources..

If i want to buy a card, I would buy one that has the best performance per watt within my budget.. gtx 980s seem to fit that catagory very well, performance is better than r9 290x and power consumption is lesser than r9 290x..correct me if I am wrong, i read that titan z was built to be the best of both world, the world of gaming and content creation and unfortunately it wasnt optimized for gaming..

Now that titan x is out, for the power it eats up i read that it has the max performance..so I would suggest a 3-way titan X sli

if you use it for gaming, you are doing a mistake, if you are using them for content creation, you are again doing a mistake..
